Meet the RaiseMN Team
Our small-but-mighty team is passionate about individual fundraising and the nonprofits that make Minnesota a better place to live. Learn more about our staff and board below!
Leah E. Olm | Director of Coaching and Curriculum
A native Duluthian, Leah’s been organizing money and people for 16 years. In her ten years of full-time individual fundraising, she organized kissing booths and foursquare tournaments. She developed fundraising relationships with students and elders, wealthy folks and folks with little. She wrote live asks that raised $71,000 in 1,000-person luncheons, $18,000 at a 100-person rally and $50,000 at a one-on-one major donor meeting.
She sold theater subscriptions and created brand new direct mailings and secured a week at a vacation home in Tuscany as an in-kind donation. She landed massive tax-deductible corporate sponsorships and created a suffragette bicycle pub crawl for a special tax designation in Colorado called the Small Donor Committee.
She often had a fundraising budget of zero dollars, so she’s learned how to solicit donations of donuts and beer, take major donors out for coffees instead of lunches, and host guerilla-style events in public places so she wouldn’t have to pay for space.
So it's fair to assume that if you're running into a snag in your fundraising, Leah’s been there.
When she’s not coaching nonprofits about fundraising, you can find Leah in her kitchen, covered head-to-toe in flour and blasting Modest Mouse and baking scones, cookies, cake, bread—basically anything that can be baked, really. Most of the time, you’ll also find her husband, Terin, and her rascally dogfriend, Chelita, waiting patiently nearby for the baking timer to ding so everyone can go play outside.
Leah serves as the lead coach and trainer for RaiseMN and lends her expertise to create our overall fundraising training curriculum.
Andrea Kopfmann | Director of Partnerships
If a career could be made out of socializing, Andrea would be the industry leader. She believes that all great ideas start with a great conversation and puts that to use by connecting people and organizations who want to help ignite generosity in Minnesota.
A South Dakota native and Southwest Minnesota State University alum, Andrea joined GiveMN in 2016, bringing a background from the Minnesota corporate and nonprofit sectors. She started and led a corporate foundation that created new relationships with nonprofits and other corporations through giving and events. During her time at Open Arms of Minnesota, Andrea led major fundraising events to record-breaking results.
Andrea has served on the board of TeamWomenMN, and has been named one of the “Top 25 Women to Watch in Business” by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
When she’s not connecting people through purpose and ideas, you’ll find Andrea checking out amazing restaurants from Bemidji to Barcelona.
Andrea facilitates RaiseMN coaching and training sessions and connects organization partners with the RaiseMN opportunities that fit their needs.
Jake Blumberg | Executive Director
Jake is pretty much obsessed with fundraising and believes that a successful strategy, campaign, and message can expand the impact of the nonprofits and schools doing incredible work in our communities. He has helped lead record-breaking and history-making fundraising efforts—and is totally invested in helping Minnesota earn the title “The State of Giving.”
Jake was named executive director of GiveMN in 2015 and has a background that spans leadership roles in nonprofits, politics, and higher education. As the senior director of development and community engagement at Open Arms of Minnesota, Jake launched multiple online giving campaigns that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. As co-finance director of Minnesotans United, he helped lead a multimillion dollar campaign in Minnesota to win the freedom to marry for same sex couples. And in Washington D.C., Jake concurrently attained a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University while working as a speech writer and associate director of development for The George Washington University Law School.
Jake is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Minnesota, University of St. Thomas, and Hamline University, where he teaches courses on fundraising strategy and leadership development.
Jake oversees the overall strategic development of our RaiseMN initiative and serves as a speaker and trainer for our curriculum.
Daniel Moore | Director of Development and Operations
Dan is our jack-of-all-trades. He runs our group training programs that help nonprofits and schools make the most of their fundraising campaigns. He also crunches the numbers for our organization and makes sure our team has the resources they need.
Oh, and he’s in charge of working with Mightycause, our technology partner, to help make GiveMN.org a great platform for connecting donors with the causes they love.
Dan joined GiveMN in 2012 after spending five years as a gift planning officer at Gillette Children’s Hospital Foundation. He has been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and holds a political science degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris.
Dan dedicates his volunteer time to the Champlin Park High School Vocal Music Association and the University of Minnesota Morris Alumni Association. He also serves on the leadership committee of A Model for Living and Learning: The Campaign for the University of Minnesota, Morris.
When he’s not doing the nonprofit thing, he’s probably tackling a new recipe or home improvement project, or inventing new Lego machines with his favorite nephew.
Dan serves as a RaiseMN coach, facilitates the Campaign Institute application process, and oversees the operations of RaiseMN programs. He also assists in developing our curriculum.
Tom Zimmerman | Director of Marketing and Communications
Tom never set out to be a part of the fundraising world, but once he got a taste of helping nonprofits and donors grow giving, he hasn't looked back.
Prior to joining the GiveMN team in 2015, Tom managed marketing and communications at the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, including helping to launch and grow the first three years of Georgia Gives Day.
Tom is a graduate student alumnus of the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and studied broadcast journalism as an undergrad at the University of Lynchburg. He was born and raised in Southside Virginia, and moved north to the Twin Cities after two visits with perfect, 70-degree sunny weather.
At GiveMN, Tom oversees communications and marketing efforts. When he’s not writing or Tweeting about giving, Tom enjoys travel, team trivia, and learning how to talk Minnesotan in spite of a southern accent. Tom also served a term as an Americorps VISTA, and on the board of Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of the Twin Cities (YNPN). He is the guardian (or possibly vice versa) to a lazy tuxedo cat named Sid.
Tom manages RaiseMN.org and all program communications and helps manage program resources.
