Building Resilience

  • Twin Cities location to be announced United States (map)

Live training at a location in the Twin Cities to be announced.

Being the primary fundraiser in an organization comes with a heap of what the sociologist Arlie Hochschild calls “emotional labor… labor that requires one to induce or suppress feeling in order to sustain the outward countenance that produces the proper state of mind in others.”

That’s a fancy way of saying that fundraisers always have to be “on,” and that part of success as a fundraiser is about managing not only your own feelings and expectations, but those of your team, your boss, and your donors. You’re simultaneously hearing “no” a lot, which is draining and hard in its own right.

How do you manage these dynamics? How do you keep yourself sane in this work? How do you draw boundaries and navigate change with a wide variety of stakeholders when a lot of what affects your work is out of your control? How can we, as fundraisers, build resilience?

This session will be co-facilitated by Leah Olm, Director of Coaching and Curriculum for RaiseMN, and Andy Fuller, Director of Development at the Blue Green Alliance.
